Products that split rock, stone and concrete by controlled expansion pressure are known under a remarkable number of names. Country, language, trade, manufacturer and field of application all influence which one is used.
Some names are technically precise, others are historic, colloquial or specific to one region. KUBATEC BMT AG has collected the most important English terms and explains their meaning, origin and use.
Background
Why are there so many different product names?
This product group has developed over several decades. In that time technical, commercial and colloquial names grew up side by side, each highlighting a different property.
Knowing the terms makes tender documents, data sheets and international project documentation far easier to navigate – and prevents costly misunderstandings with authorities and clients.

Our preferred term
Expansive demolition agent
In English, KUBATEC BMT AG prefers the term expansive demolition agent.
It describes the product group in which a chemically driven increase in volume generates high pressure inside boreholes, splitting rock, stone and concrete in a controlled way.
BETONAMIT® is an expansive demolition agent for the controlled demolition of rock, stone and concrete. Other traditional and international names remain relevant and are explained in detail on the following pages.
